The Spell in America

May 20th, 2010 by Alan

After two months of negotiations, a distribution agreement has been signed covering North America with LA based cvdistributes.

The Spell will now be available in North America through some very well known outlets.

Nearer home, The Spell is being shown at the Parkway Cinema in Cleethorpes next Thursday (27th May – see: http://cleethorpes.parkwaycinemas.co.uk) and this will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director, Owen Carey Jones and producer Neil Harrison.

This event has been organised by Meniscus Films who run an annual film festival in Humberside and Owen Carey Jones did a radio interview yesterday for BBC Radio Humberside promoting the event which you can listen to by going here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/humberside/programmes/schedules – look for Lara King’s Morning Show for the 19th May and it’s about 2 hour 19 minutes into the show.

The Spell now available on DVD

February 11th, 2010 by Alan

Here’s an update on The Spell (Carey Films), but if you would like to see the full version click on this link: www.careyfilms.com/thespell.html and then click on NEWSLETTER.

Anyway, having secured a theatrical release for The Spell, it is now eligible for the BAFTAs and so a full-blooded BAFTA campaign is underway.  Exciting stuff!

Also, as a result of The Spell’s nationwide theatrical release, it has secured a UK distribution deal with Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment, a dynamic up and coming UK distributor.

The Spell will now be released on DVD in the UK on Monday 22nd February.  Initially, the DVD will be available in HMV stores and from most online retailers such as Amazon and LoveFilm.

The film will also be available for download from iTunes from 22nd February and will then be released on Video on Demand through Virgin Media’s FilmFlex channel in March.

Reviews of the film are coming in thick and fast.  Here are a few of the latest:

“Admirably, Carey Jones has avoided creating a ridiculous paranormal plot.” – (The Sun)

“Genuinely scary moments.” (Eye For Film)

“Pitkin displays plenty of torment.” (The Sun)

“Jones has to be congratulated for making a genuine exhibitable feature on comparatively little money.” (Cine7)

“If you like films laced with suspense and psychological horror then you will enjoy this title.” (GoreZone Magazine)

If you’d like to keep up to date with the progress of the film, download the newsletter (link at the top of this post) and you’ll find details of how to get added to the list.

If you haven’t seen the film yet, why not?  I’d be interested to hear your thoughts about my score.

More to follow…

The Spell – screening update

September 29th, 2009 by Alan

The Spell will soon open in 17 cinemas across the country. New to the list are the Showcase cinemas in Derby, Peterborough and Dudley.

The National Press show screening for the film took place today and 17 film critics from the national daily and Sunday papers attended, including one very famous television film critic whose favourite film of all time is, allegedly, The Exorcist!

I hope you get the chance to listen to my soundtrack and the 3 songs specially written for the film.

If you’d like to see the film and make an evening of it, here’s a link to the screening times:

If you do see the film, I’d love to hear what you thought of my music ;-)
