Just came across this interesting little ditty about one of my favourite composers, Bernard Herrmann. I hadn’t realised that lots of his music was originally intended as ‘stock library’ music for filmmakers to buy and use in their latest productions.

The internet has certainly made ‘library music’ prolific today, but I hadn’t realised it was prevalent in the 1930′s. You live and learn!

Click the link below to read the article:

OUTER SPACE SUITE

Herrmann is most famous for his Alfred Hitchcock scores – those shrieking strings in “Psycho” are certainly among the most famous minutes in film soundtrack history. But this stuff was library music – not available to the general public …

Then, have a look at: The Outer Space Suite

Any thoughts?

Alan

Ennio Morricone’s recent concert tour came briefly to New York early in 2007. The DVD-CD set Ennio Morricone Peace Notes Live in Venice records two later performances at the Piazza San Marco in Venice on September 9 and 10, 2007. …

Ennio Morricone is a legend, full stop. His music can be heard in the “Spaghetti Westerns” of Sergio Leone, in Once Upon A Time in America (one of my favourite movies), The Untouchables, Bertolucci’s Novecento, Sean Penn’s State of …

Although it’s light years away from the kind of Morricone stuff I usually post, The Case is Closed, Forget It! (as it’s also known) is still worthwhile for those who want a more challenging listen. This soundtrack is experimental and …

This haunting piece of music by Ennio Morricone comes from Sergio Leone’s landmark 1984 gangster film starring Robert De Niro and features on our release The Essential Ennio Morricone (SILCD1165).

Ennio Morricone’s haunting score punctuates the epic themes with grandeur. One of the best westerns ever, and by gosh it was made by an Italian. * * *. Top 10 List: Introduction. # 10: The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter. # 9: Romeo and Juliet …

Time Magazine put together this nice photo essay a while ago about the highlights of famous composer Ennio Morricone´s career. If you haven´t heard of Ennio Morricone before I´m sure you´ll recognise his music at least. …

Seems like he’s still at the top of his film composing career. Good for him!
